2023 AGV & AMR Robotics report: Software is a critical success factor

Hanover / London, November 30, 2023

Software is becoming an increasingly critical success factor in the global market for robot hardware. This is one of the key findings of the AGV & AMR Robotics 2023 study published by market research institute STIQ in London on Thursday.

According to the study, decision-makers in intralogistics experience the robotics provider landscape as fragmented and confusing, with more than 500 providers. One of the results of this is the need to bundle agnostic control systems from individual providers into comprehensive "Intralogistics Operating Systems".

STIQ report: Agnostic software solutions must be merged into comprehensive systems

In the report, SYNAOS CEO and co-founder Dr. Wolfgang Hackenberg exclusively shares his experience in the field of comprehensive software solutions, the worldwide spread of the VDA 5050 standard, planning strategies of global companies with regard to mobile robot fleets and the growing importance of interoperability in intralogistics.

"We are currently observing two development trends: firstly, the market for mobile robots is maturing and fleets are becoming larger. Secondly, as robot fleets grow, they overlap with or increasingly interfere with manually operated vehicles, which makes it necessary to optimize and orchestrate internal logistics processes," says Hackenberg.

SYNAOS CEO Hackenberg: manned forklift trucks and tow tractors must be integrated into the software system

SYNAOS CEO Hackenberg sees a decisive line of development in the integration of analog vehicles into digital systems: "There are major customers who will only opt for fleet management software for mobile robots if they can also integrate their manned forklift trucks and tow tractors," says Hackenberg.

This is precisely why SYNAOS has developed the Intralogistics Management Platform and special solutions for the real-time localization of forklift trucks, for example. The goal: a holistically recorded and fully optimized internal logistics process.

For its AGV & AMR Robotics 2023 study, STIQ interviewed a total of 56 experts on topics including trends, market shares, growth and future challenges. The report, sponsored by SYNAOS and others, can be downloaded here.

ABOUT SYNAOS

SYNAOS is revolutionizing intralogistics - and thus the way things are manufactured in factories and moved in warehouses. SYNAOS GmbH is a leading German intralogistics software company that digitizes and automates intralogistics processes in production sites and logistics centers.

The SYNAOS Intralogistics Management Platform combines innovative AI optimization methods with modern and scalable IT technologies for operational excellence in intralogistics. The SYNAOS IMP covers three main solution scenarios: Mobile Robot Fleet Management, Real-time Localization and Warehouse Execution. SYNAOS pursues a data-driven approach: the user-centered IMP calculates the optimal routes for warehouse personnel, mobile robots and manned vehicles in real time.SYNAOS' scalable AI solutions have been playing a key role in shaping the industrial future of our society for more than five years. The Hanover-based software company believes in a software-driven industrial future and aims to take the intralogistics sector a quantum leap forward with its product.
